This modest addition to a previously designed coastal house by Maddison Architects was an opportunity to complete a vision for the site that began in 1995. This project demonstrates a highly valuable outcome for a considerably low cost.
The brief was to design a new, independent living quarter that embodied the character of the original house. The relationship between the existing house and the new pavilion was carefully balanced to enable autonomous built forms, while providing a united approach to the site. The additional amenity and the interaction with the environment that the client now experiences have been greatly appreciated.
Environmentally sustainable design and a harmonious interaction with the much-loved previous house and surrounding landscape were key consideration for this small project.
